About

Wishing Well Flowers is a contemporary florist specialising in stunning flowers from a small thank you to an elaborate wedding/event. Owned and operated by me – Katherine Barlow.

I love all things beautiful and all things to do with flowers and floristry. I especially love old plates, teacups, lace doilies – anything that’s old and has a story – I just love!!

I am totally passionate about what I do and love to pass on my passion through flowers – so much that if you are not totally excited about flowers before talking to me you certainly will be after!!

From creating sandsaucers, and flower arrangements at Primary school calf days, to helping Mum in her garden, I have always loved flowers and everything nature has to offer., So when it was time to leave school and choose a career path, there was no doubt that it was going to have flowers somewhere in it!!

Training

I started my floristry Career in 1997 at the Bay of Plenty Polytechnic, School of Floristry- Certificate in Floristry and Diploma in Interflora procedures, gaining my first full time job at the end of my course, working for well known local florist Lovells florist, under the fantastic guidance of Glynss Kelsen and Phyliss Malcolm. After gaining my level 3 and 4 floristry qualifications, i had a change of career for a few years, where I worked at Fonterra, as a Sensory Technician. After 5 years, the call of the Flower world was too much so I bought Wishing Well Flowers in 2006. I love being a florist and being surrounded by all things I love everyday must make my job the best in the world!

I love to always be learning, and bringing new and exciting ideas to the shop and to my work, so what better way to expand my creative knowledge than to travel overseas!! I recently have returned from 6 weeks in UK working for the talented Kim from Little Botanica. Little Botanica is based in Glasgow, and I got to help Kim out with some fantastic weddings she had, at some amazing venues!! We also did a wee stint in London, where we trailed the streets of London, in search of amazing florist shops and products to inspire us!! A wonderful trip!! I have have come back so inspired and bursting at the seams with ideas!! Exactly what I wanted to achieve!!!!!
